The city of Jaipur exists as a microcosm
for Rajasthan. If there is one place to see the culture and tradition of Rajasthan
within the purview of a city, then Jaipur is where it all conglomerates. It has
glimpses of everything for which Rajasthan is famous. The city of towering forts
and majestic palaces, Jaipur has a glorious past. It is a place where sacrificing
lives for the dignity and honour was not sole proprietorship of men. Women have
run shoulder to shoulder to men in matters of valour and bravery committing Jauhar
(enmass suicide) to save the dignity and honour of their clans.
Sawai Jai
Singh II who ruled 1688 to 1744 founded Jaipur, the Rose Pink capital city of
Rajasthan. He was a great warrior, visionary in science and astrology. The Great
Warrior laid the foundation of the city in 1627. He was instrumental in making
Jaipur one of the progressive cities of medieval times. Undoubtedly, the city
was well planned, structured, and had one of the best drinking water solutions
in the medieval world.
